Rethinking Organization in the Age of Industry 4.0 and 5.0: A Bibliometric and Thematic Analysis of the Literature on Performance and Sustainability
Résumé
Cet article propose une analyse bibliométrique et thématique de la littérature scientifique consacrée aux relations entre l’industrie 4.0, l’industrie 5.0, la performance organisationnelle et le développement durable. L’étude s’appuie sur un corpus de publications scientifiques indexées dans la base de données Scopus, couvrant la période de janvier 2020 au 27 janvier 2026, et mobilise une approche méthodologique combinant une analyse bibliométrique descriptive visant à identifier les tendances de publication, les sources les plus influentes, les contributions géographiques et l’impact des citations, avec une analyse thématique fondée sur la cooccurrence des mots-clés et l’examen des contenus des titres, résumés et mots-clés des auteurs. Par ailleurs, cette étude a été réalisée conformément aux recommandations de la déclaration PRISMA, qui encadrent de manière transparente les étapes d’identification, de sélection, d’éligibilité et d’inclusion des travaux, ainsi que les méthodes d’analyse mobilisées. Les résultats mettent en évidence une évolution progressive du champ, marquée par le passage d’une approche techno-centrée vers une vision plus intégrative, centrée sur l’humain, la résilience et la durabilité. Plusieurs thèmes structurants et émergents sont identifiés. En apportant une cartographie structurée du champ, cet article contribue à clarifier les dynamiques conceptuelles reliant industrie 4.0 et industrie 5.0 à la performance organisationnelle et au développement durable, tout en mettant en lumière des pistes de recherche futures pour les chercheurs et les praticiens.

Abstract
This article provides a bibliometric and thematic analysis of scientific literature addressing the relationships between Industry 4.0, Industry 5.0, organizational performance, and sustainable development. The study is based on a corpus of scientific publications indexed in the Scopus database, covering the period from 2020 to 27 January 2026 and adopts a methodological approach combining a descriptive bibliometric analysis, aimed at identifying publication trends, the most influential sources, geographic contributions, and citation impact, with a thematic analysis based on keyword co-occurrence, as well as a content analysis of titles, abstracts, and author keywords. Furthermore, this study was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines, ensuring a transparent process in the identification, selection, eligibility, and inclusion of studies, as well as in the analytical procedures employed. The findings reveal a progressive evolution of the field, characterized by a shift from a techno-centric approach toward a more integrative perspective focused on human centricity, resilience, and sustainability. Several structuring and emerging themes are identified. By providing a structured mapping of the field, this article contributes to clarifying the conceptual dynamics linking Industry 4.0 and industry 5.0 to organizational performance and sustainable development, while also highlighting avenues for future research for both scholars and practitioners.
